United States Big Alert (Employment Based Green Cards)

The State Department has released the July 2026 Visa Bulletin, and the headline is a small step backward for one group and forward movement for almost everyone else. EB-1 India sees slight retrogression, while most other employment based categories advance. USCIS has confirmed it will honor the Final Action Dates chart for employment based green card filings in July.

What it means: If your client is waiting on an Indian EB-1 case, the cutoff date has moved back a little, so some people who were close are now waiting again. For Chinese applicants and most other categories, dates moved ahead, which means more people can file or get their green card approved.

Impact: Indian EB-1 clients should not panic but should expect delays and plan around them. Everyone else in employment based categories should check their priority date right now against the new July chart, because a forward movement is a window that can close fast if demand picks up again.

Canada Big Alert (Citizenship)

This is one of the more unusual moves we have seen. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has suspended a batch of recently approved citizenship certificates and asked the people who received them to return the documents.

What it means: A group of people who were told they had become Canadian citizens are now being asked to hand back their certificates while the department reviews the files. This points to an error or a verification problem on the government side, not the applicants.

Impact: If you have clients who received a citizenship certificate in the last few weeks, tell them to keep every email and letter from IRCC and not to throw anything away. Anyone affected should wait for written instructions before acting and should avoid booking travel that depends on holding that citizenship proof.

Canada Active Alert (Provincial / Quebec)

Quebec is temporarily reopening its Quebec Experience Program pathway to permanent residence.

What it means: A popular route for people already working or studying in Quebec is opening its doors again for a limited window.

Impact: This is a real opportunity for clients with Quebec work experience or a Quebec diploma. Move quickly, because temporary reopenings usually come with caps and tight deadlines.

United Kingdom Big Alert (Settlement / ILR)

The wait for clarity on permanent residence continues, and the government has now signaled the timing. A UK immigration minister confirmed in a June interview that the finalised settlement rules are expected in the autumn. The plan still involves moving the standard qualifying period for indefinite leave to remain from five years toward ten, with stricter conditions.

What it means: The big change to how long people must live in the UK before they can settle is coming, but it is not law yet. The detail is expected later this year.

Impact: Clients close to their five year mark should seriously consider applying under current rules where they qualify, rather than waiting. Anyone planning a long term UK move should budget for a longer road to settlement and higher English requirements.

Europe (Schengen Area) Active Alert (Travel / Entry Systems)

The new digital border system is now fully live. The Entry Exit System became fully operational across participating European countries on 10 April 2026, and the next layer, ETIAS, is still expected later in 2026. ETIAS is scheduled to start in the last quarter of the year, with the exact date to be announced a few months before launch.

What it means: Non European visitors now have their face and fingerprints recorded at the border instead of getting a passport stamp. ETIAS, a quick paid travel approval, is coming but is not required yet.

Impact: Tell clients to expect longer queues at European airports this summer and to arrive early. Warn them that ETIAS is not open for applications yet, so any website asking them to pay for it now is a scam.

India and United Arab Emirates Active Alert (Consular Services)

A major change is coming for the large Indian community in the Gulf. From 1 July 2026, a new provider, Al Hind Tours and Travels, takes over all Indian passport, visa, OCI, and document services in the UAE, replacing BLS International and SGIVS Global, with 16 centres across all seven emirates. The outgoing agencies stop accepting applications on 30 June 2026.

What it means: Anyone needing an Indian passport renewal, OCI card, or attestation in the UAE will deal with a completely new company from July.

Impact: This handover lands right in the peak summer travel season. Advise clients in the UAE to submit urgent passport and OCI work before the end of June if possible, because a provider switch almost always brings short term delays.

No major new policy changes or big announcements reported from other countries worldwide today.

Pro Tip for Immigration Consultants: The fastest moving item today is the US July Visa Bulletin. Pull up every employment based client file this week and match each priority date against the new chart, because forward movement creates a filing window that can shut the moment demand rises again.
