Course Description

New Zealand's Skilled Migrant Category residence visa is the country's primary points based pathway to permanent residency and it is more accessible than many people realise. New Zealand has a genuine shortage of skilled workers, a welcoming immigration culture, and one of the highest quality of life rankings in the world. This course teaches immigration professionals the full pathway from Skilled Migrant Category expression of interest through to residence visa grant and the rights that come with it.

    Module 1: New Zealand Residence Framework and Skilled Migrant Category New Zealand's residence visa categories overview, Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) as the primary points based pathway, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) as the governing authority, how the SMC pool and invitation to apply system works, expression of interest (EOI) submission requirements, and other residence pathways including the Residency from Work category for AEWV holders after meeting tenure requirements.

    Module 2: Skilled Migrant Points Test and Factors SMC points test framework points for age, skilled employment in New Zealand, job offer, qualifications, and partner factors, minimum points threshold to be considered for selection from the pool, how skilled employment in New Zealand during the work visa period significantly strengthens the EOI, and realistic points assessment for different client profiles.

    Module 3: EOI Submission, Selection and Residence Application Submitting an EOI in SkillSelect NZ, pool selection and ITA from INZ, 4 month window to submit the residence application after ITA, required documents covering job offer or employment evidence, qualifications, police certificates, medical examination, and English language proof, processing timeline, and INZ's assessment of genuine skilled employment.

    Module 4: Residence Grant, Travel Conditions and Citizenship New Zealand residence visa grant and conditions, right to live, work, and study in New Zealand permanently, returning resident visa for PRs travelling abroad, access to New Zealand publicly funded healthcare and education, pathway to New Zealand citizenship after 5 years of presence as a resident, and the New Zealand passport as one of the world's most powerful travel documents.
