Course Description

Qatar captured the world's attention during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and its economy has continued to grow rapidly since, attracting investment and talent across construction, energy, finance, healthcare, and hospitality. Qatar has reformed its Kafala sponsorship system significantly in recent years, giving workers more rights and mobility than ever before. This course explains how Qatar's work permit system now functions, what employers and workers each need to do, and what rights workers hold under the reformed framework.

    Module 1: Qatar's Economy and Post-Kafala Work Permit Framework Qatar's Vision 2030 and ongoing development projects, reformed Kafala system explained what changed and what rights workers now have, Ministry of Labour (MoL) as the governing authority, residency permit (RP) tied to employment, and which nationalities need advance visas versus visa on arrival for employment entry.

    Module 2: Employer Sponsorship and Work Permit Application Employer's role in initiating the work permit process through the Metrash2 digital platform, required employer documents (commercial registration, visa quota), required worker documents (passport, medical certificate from accredited clinic, criminal record, educational certificates for professional roles), processing timelines, and entry visa for the worker.

    Module 3: Arrival, Residence Permit and Employee Rights Medical examination inside Qatar, biometric Residence Permit (Haweya) issuance, bank account opening, worker mobility rights under the reformed system minimum notice period to change employer without sponsor permission, exit permit requirement abolition and current rules, and Non Objection Certificate (NOC) explained in the post reform context.

    Module 4: Labour Law Protections, Minimum Wage and Dispute Resolution Qatar's non discriminatory minimum wage (currently QAR 1,000 per month base plus allowances as a reference), accommodation and food allowance requirements, Wage Protection System (WPS), Labour Dispute Settlement Committee for worker complaints, heat work ban during summer months, and contract termination rights for workers.
