Course Description

Japan is one of Asia's most rewarding study destinations, offering world class universities, a unique cultural environment, and strong graduate employment prospects. The Japanese student visa process is thorough and involves obtaining a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) before the consular application. This course covers every step from university admission and CoE application to arriving in Japan, registering as a resident, and understanding work rights. Suited for education consultants and advisors supporting students planning to study at Japanese universities, graduate schools, or language institutions.

    Module 1: Japanese Education System and Admission National universities (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka), private universities (Waseda, Keio), graduate school admissions, Japanese language schools as a pathway, Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) requirements, English taught programmes, and the admission letter or enrolment guarantee from the institution.

    Module 2: Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) and Visa Application How the Japanese institution applies for the CoE from the Immigration Services Agency on behalf of the student, what the CoE document is and why it is required, submitting the CoE along with the visa application at the Japanese consulate, required supporting documents (passport, photos, financial proof), and processing timelines.

    Module 3: Financial Proof and Scholarship Considerations Financial support evidence (approximately JPY 120,000 to JPY 150,000 per month as a general living cost reference), scholarship programmes (MEXT Government Scholarship, JASSO scholarships), sponsor affidavit requirements, and tuition fee confirmation by institution type.

    Module 4: Arrival, Residence Card and National Health Insurance Residence card (Zairyu Card) issued at the port of entry for stays over 3 months, municipal address registration (Juki Net), My Number card explained, National Health Insurance (Kokumin Kenko Hoken) enrolment at the ward office, bank account opening process, and university orientation.

    Module 5: Work Rights, Permit to Engage and Post Study Permission to engage in activity outside status (Shikaku-gai Katsudo Kyoka) for part time work up to 28 hours per week, how to apply for this permission, job hunting visa (Tokutei Katsudo) for graduates seeking employment in Japan, and pathway to work visas after graduation.
