Course Description
The UK Graduate visa, commonly referred to as the Graduate Route, allows eligible international students to remain in the UK after successfully completing an eligible course. It is an unsponsored immigration route designed for graduates who want to work or look for work in the UK. This training provides immigration professionals with a practical understanding of eligibility, qualifying UK study, education-provider requirements, application timing, identity verification, documentation and work conditions. The course is designed for immigration consultants, visa filing professionals, education advisers and professionals handling UK student-to-work immigration cases. Through World Visa Academy’s structured training, learners develop skills to assess graduate profiles, identify eligibility issues, prepare supporting documents and explain dependant and post-study options. The course also covers the important change that applications made from 1 January 2027 receive 18 months of permission rather than two years, except for doctoral graduates, who receive three years.

Module 1

Understand the purpose and structure of the Graduate Route, its position within the UK immigration system and its unsponsored nature. Learn the distinction between the Graduate Route and sponsored work routes, including why the Graduate Route itself is not a settlement route.
Module 2
Graduate Eligibility & Qualifying Study
Learn how to assess whether an applicant has successfully completed an eligible UK course with a qualifying education provider and held the appropriate Student or Tier 4 permission. Understand course-level requirements, study periods and the education provider’s responsibility to notify the Home Office of successful completion.
Module 3
Application & Documentation
Master the application workflow, including application timing, online submission, identity verification and supporting evidence. Study key documents such as the passport, Student visa information and CAS reference, along with additional evidence that may be required depending on the applicant’s circumstances.
Module 4
Work Rights, Duration & Conditions
Understand what Graduate visa holders can and cannot do, including employment, self-employment, voluntary work, study restrictions and the prohibition on professional sport. Learn the current duration rules, including the change to 18 months for applications made from 1 January 2027 and the three-year period for doctoral graduates.
Module 5
Dependants & Post-Graduate Immigration Planning
Learn the current dependant rules, including the requirement that eligible partners and children generally already hold dependant permission under the Student route, with specific provisions for children born in the UK during Graduate permission. Understand how graduates can plan a future switch to another eligible immigration route because the Graduate Route cannot itself be extended.

The route is generally available to applicants who are in the UK, hold or recently held eligible Student or Tier 4 permission, have successfully completed an eligible UK course and have had their education provider report successful completion to the Home Office. The course and study-period requirements must also be satisfied under the Immigration Rules.
Applicants generally need a valid passport or travel document and information confirming their previous Student or Tier 4 permission, including their CAS reference. Depending on circumstances, additional relationship or sponsorship evidence may be required. Documents that are not in English or Welsh generally require certified translations.
For applications made on or before 31 December 2026, the Graduate visa normally lasts two years. For applications made on or after 1 January 2027, it normally lasts 18 months. Graduates with a PhD or other doctoral qualification receive three years. The Graduate visa cannot itself be extended.
