World Visa Academy – Daily Global Immigration and Visa Updates Date: 28/05/2026

Canada is moving to suspend immigration documents for residents of Uganda, South Sudan and the DR Congo, using new executive powers from its C12 immigration bill. Starting 30 May, anyone returning to Canada who visited these regions in the past 21 days, including citizens and permanent residents, must follow quarantine rules on arrival. Impact: Work permits, study permits and visitor visas tied to these countries can now be paused or cancelled in the name of public health and safety. With the FIFA World Cup matches coming to Toronto and Vancouver soon, expect tighter screening at the border. Consultants with clients from these regions should warn them about travel timing right now.

United States Big Alert : The EB2 India green card category has hit its yearly limit and is now fully unavailable until 30 September 2026. No new approvals or visa issuance can happen in this category until the new fiscal year begins on 1 October 2026. Impact: This is a heavy blow for thousands of Indian professionals, many on H1B, who have waited years for permanent residency. The EB2 India final action date sits all the way back at September 2013, so only very old cases qualify. Tell clients that filing can continue, but approvals simply will not move until October.

United States -Under a new rule, foreigners already inside the US who want a green card will need to leave and apply from their home country instead. Linked to this, US health authorities have also widened entry restrictions to cover green card holders recently in DR Congo, Uganda or South Sudan. Impact: This ends a long standing path where people could complete the whole process while staying in the US. It adds risk, cost and travel for many families. Anyone in these situations should get proper advice before booking any flight.

New Zealand - From 1 June 2026, investors in the Active Investor Plus Growth category can put up to 20 percent of their total investment into philanthropic contributions. Impact: New Zealand keeps making its golden visa more flexible to pull in wealthy migrants. For high net worth clients comparing options, this is a softer and more attractive route than many rivals right now.

China - More countries are being added to China's visa free list, and travellers entering under this scheme are getting wider rights during their stay. Impact: Short trips for tourism, business and family visits are getting easier. Good news for clients who travel often, though work activity still stays banned under visa free entry.

No major new policy changes or big announcements reported from other countries worldwide today.

Pro Tip for Immigration Consultants When a country freezes a category like EB2 India, do not let clients sit and panic. Use the waiting window to prepare clean, complete files so the moment the door reopens on 1 October, your applicants are first in line, not last.
