Malaysia Big Alert — EP Appeal Window Cuts from 6 Months to 14 Days, Starts Today

What it means: From today, any employer in Malaysia whose Employment Pass or Professional Visit Pass is rejected has only 14 days to file an online appeal. Previously they had 6 months. Once 14 days pass the system locks them out permanently and the fee is non-refundable regardless. Also coming June 1: Category 1 EP minimum salary doubles from RM 10,000 to RM 20,000 per month.

Impact: Send this to every employer client in Malaysia today. A rejection that gave them 6 months to regroup now gives them 14 days. Any EP or PVP rejection must land on your desk within 48 hours from today onwards or the appeal is gone forever. Also check if any Category 1 EP holders are earning below RM 20,000 before June 1 or their renewal will be refused.

Brazil Big Alert — Visa Free Access for Chinese Nationals Confirmed from May 11

What it means: Brazil removed the short stay visa requirement for Chinese ordinary passport holders effective May 11. Chinese nationals can now visit visa free for up to 30 days. Proof of funds and return ticket still required at the border. Work activities still need a proper work visa.

Impact: Update travel guides for Chinese national clients heading to Latin America. Corporate travel managers handling Chinese executives on Brazil business trips should revise their travel policies immediately.

India Big Alert — Indian Nationals No Longer Need Airport Transit Visa for France

What it means: India confirmed this week that Indian passport holders no longer need an Airport Transit Visa when connecting through airports in mainland France including Paris CDG. This has been in effect since April 10 but formally confirmed now.

Impact: Update client travel briefings for Indian nationals using Paris as a connecting hub. Make clear this applies to France only and other Schengen countries may still require an ATV for Indian passport holders transiting through them.

Canada Big Alert — CEC and French Language Draws Overdue, Could Drop Today

What it means: IRCC has still not released the CEC or category draws expected this week after the May 11 PNP draw. These are now one to two days overdue based on IRCC's consistent pattern. CEC cut off expected around CRS 512 to 515. French language draw expected as low as CRS 393. Express Entry reform consultation closes May 24, just 9 days away.

Impact: Keep watching canada.ca today and this weekend. All client profiles between CRS 380 and 516 must be updated right now. Do not switch off this weekend. These draws can drop without any advance warning.

United States Big Alert — FIFA World Cup 2026 Visa Rush is Happening Right Now

What it means: The State Department issued updated travel guidance this week for FIFA World Cup 2026 travelers. Matches run June 11 to July 19 across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Non-immigrant visa holders must ensure their visa covers the full stay. ESTA must be obtained before travel for VWP countries. Nationals on the US travel ban list cannot enter regardless of match tickets.

Impact: This is a major business opportunity right now. Millions of fans need US and Canadian visitor visas and time is running out. Build a simple FIFA visa package, price it clearly, and start marketing today. Matches start in less than four weeks.

Netherlands Big Alert — HSM Permit Renewal Simplified, Dependent Flexibility Expanded

What it means: From April 3, Dutch IND no longer requires salary details in the HSM renewal form. A self declaration is now sufficient. Also, dependants of HSM holders can now stay outside the Netherlands for up to 8 months when the main holder is working abroad. Previously only the main holder had this flexibility.

Impact: Good news for employer clients in the Netherlands. Renewals just got simpler and HSM holders who travel frequently for work no longer need to worry about their families being forced to remain inside the country.

Norway Big Alert — Forced Returns to Iran Suspended Until September 2026

What it means: Norway confirmed this week that Iranian nationals with rejected residence applications will not face forced return until September 20, 2026 due to ongoing instability in Iran.

Impact: Iranian nationals in Norway facing removal have temporary protection until September. Advise them to use this window to explore any remaining legal options rather than waiting passively.

Switzerland and Schengen Big Alert — Internal Border Checks Extended Across Multiple Countries

What it means: From May 12, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, and Norway extended internal border checks within the Schengen zone. Additional controls are also coming around the G7 Summit in France from June 10 to 19.

Impact: Clients travelling within Europe should carry their full passport and documents at all times even on internal EU flights or trains. This is especially important for non-EU nationals on work or student visas inside Schengen.

Pro Tip for Immigration Consultants

Three things need your attention today. First, Malaysia's 14 day appeal window started this morning so send your employer clients there a message right now explaining that any EP rejection must reach you within 48 hours from today. Second, the Canada CEC and French language draws are overdue and could drop any time this weekend so stay close to canada.ca and do not switch off until they are confirmed. Third, FIFA World Cup matches start June 11 which is less than four weeks away. If you have not already built a FIFA visa package for your clients, today is the day to do it. The consultants moving this week will be fully booked by June while everyone else is still thinking about it.
