World Visa Academy – Daily Global Visa & Immigration Update Date: 05/05/2026

Canada Big Alert – Launch of Fast-Track PR for 33,000 Rural Workers What it means: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has officially activated the "In-Canada Workers Initiative" as of today. This one-time measure fast-tracks permanent residency for up to 33,000 temporary residents who have lived and worked in smaller or remote communities for at least two years. Impact: This is a "backlog clearance" move. IRCC is pulling exclusively from existing inventories (PNP, Atlantic Immigration Program, and Caregiver pilots). No new applications are being accepted for this specific quota; instead, eligible files already in the system are being auto-accelerated for immediate finalization.

United States Big Alert – EB-5 "Final Action" Retrogression for Indian Nationals What it means: The U.S. State Department’s May 2026 Visa Bulletin has officially moved the "Final Action Date" for Indian EB-5 (Unreserved) applicants to May 1, 2022. This confirms that the "Current" status enjoyed by Indian investors for the past few years has ended due to a massive spike in application volume. Impact: Only Indian investors with a priority date before May 2022 can now receive their Green Cards. Those physically in the U.S. with approved I-526E petitions must check their eligibility to file for Adjustment of Status (AOS) immediately before the window tightens further.

European Union (Schengen Area) Big Alert – Temporary Waiver of Biometric Scans at Hub Airports What it means: Following the full activation of the digital Entry/Exit System (EES) last month, the European Commission authorized a "safety valve" protocol effective today. Major hubs like Frankfurt, Paris-CDG, and Amsterdam-Schiphol are now permitted to temporarily suspend mandatory fingerprint and facial scans during peak congestion to prevent "unacceptable" 3-hour queues. Impact: Travelers may encounter manual passport stamping during surge periods. However, consultants must warn clients that this is a temporary flow-management tool; the 90/180-day stay is still being calculated by the central digital database, and overstays will be flagged automatically regardless of whether a physical stamp was received.

Australia Big Alert – Implementation of "Risk-Based" Arrival Restrictions What it means: The Migration Amendment (2026 Measures No. 1) Bill has officially entered into force today. This gives the Home Affairs Minister the power to impose temporary "pauses" or heightened restrictions on certain visa classes if data suggests a high risk of non-departure (visa-hopping). Impact: Expect a surge in "Genuine Temporary Entrant" (GTE) refusals for applicants from high-risk regions or those attempting to switch from visitor to student visas. Consultants must now provide significantly more evidence of "incentive to return" than in previous years.

No major new policy changes or big announcements reported from other countries worldwide today.

Pro Tip for Immigration Consultants: With the US EB-5 retrogression now official, pivot your high-net-worth Indian clients toward the "Set-Aside" categories (Rural or High Unemployment areas), which currently remain "Current" and offer a faster path than the now-backlogged Unreserved category.
