United States — H1B and PERM Fraud Investigation

The Department of Labor opened what it is calling its most aggressive investigation ever into H1B and PERM visa fraud on 8 July. Working alongside the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice, investigators have already issued dozens of subpoenas to companies and staffing agencies across the United States.

Labor Department Inspector General Anthony D'Esposito named Cognizant publicly among the firms drawing scrutiny, describing the probe as an effort to dismantle networks that have been exploiting foreign workers through coercive wage arrangements while undercutting American workers with below-market labour.

The investigation sits inside Project Firewall, a multi-agency enforcement structure that has been running since September 2025 and has already opened more than 175 related cases.

Layered on top of this, from 10 July, USCIS begins rejecting any filing that carries an auto generated or copy pasted signature. One auto filled field is now enough to trigger a rejection on an otherwise complete application.

What this means for consultants and employers: Any high-volume H1B or PERM filer should audit their paperwork immediately. Check that every signature in every pending filing is genuine before tomorrow's rule takes effect. Clients employed through staffing firms or IT consulting companies should be prepared for longer processing times and heightened scrutiny on their cases.

United Arab Emirates — Grace Period Ends Today

The thirty day grace period the UAE extended to travellers stranded by this year's regional flight disruptions closes today, 9 July. Standard overstay fines are back in full force from this moment onward.

Any client still relying on this relief must exit or regularise their status today. The daily fine clock restarts the moment the grace period lapses, and there is no retroactive relief once fines begin to accrue.

United Kingdom — Children at eGates

From 8 July, children aged eight and nine can use UK eGates when travelling with an adult and holding an approved biometric passport. Until this week, only children aged ten and above qualified. Families flying into the UK this summer will save meaningful time at the border.

Slovakia — Schengen Applications Suspended for Russian Applicants

Slovakia's visa centres in Russia have stopped accepting new short stay Schengen applications for July and August. Only sports travel and long stay national visas remain open. Slovak authorities describe it as a scheduling change rather than a suspension, but the practical effect is the same.

Russian clients wanting a tourist or business Schengen visa through Slovakia are blocked until September. Study, work, and family cases continue, though with slower processing. For time sensitive trips, an alternative Schengen entry point is the practical route.

Vietnam — Visa Free Stay Cut for Indonesian Travellers

From 15 July, Vietnam is reducing visa free stay for Indonesian passport holders from thirty days to fourteen days, covering tourism and family visits only. Business travellers now require a visa regardless of trip length.

Any Indonesian client with a longer trip already booked needs an eVisa arranged before 15 July. The window is short.

Saudi Arabia — New Package Visa Launches

Saudi Arabia launched its new Package Visa on 7 July, bundling the tourist visa application directly into flight and hotel bookings for travellers from around fifteen countries. It is a genuine convenience upgrade for eligible nationalities, and worth watching as the programme expands.

India and Australia — Student Visa Pressure Builds

Prime Minister Modi's summit with Australia this week is putting direct pressure on Canberra over processing delays, rising refusal rates, and a new cap on Indian student visas. No policy has changed yet, but this is the strongest signal so far that movement is coming. Keep Indian student clients informed and monitor closely for outcomes from the talks.
