World Visa Academy – Daily Global Visa & Immigration Update Date: 22/5/2026

United States Big Alert The June 2026 Visa Bulletin has just dropped and it brings bad news for Indian applicants. EB2 India goes backwards by over 10 months and EB1 India slips back by about 3.5 months. Only EB3 India and EB3 China see a tiny push forward. What it means: Many Indian green card hopefuls who were close to their turn will now have to wait longer. Priority dates have moved backwards instead of forward.

Impact: Applicants already in the USA must hold on to their H1B or L1 status carefully. Anyone planning to file an I140 should lock it in fast before more retrogression hits. EB5 is still the fastest route for those who can invest.

European Union (Ethiopia) The Council of the European Union has officially lifted the strict Schengen visa rules that were placed on Ethiopian nationals back in 2024. What it means: Visa processing for Ethiopians drops from 45 days back to the normal 15 days. Multiple entry visas, fee waivers for diplomatic passports, and flexible document rules are all back.

Impact: Ethiopian business travellers, students, and tourists can now plan European trips much faster. Consultants handling African clients should immediately update their timelines and offer fresh quotes.

Japan - Japan has confirmed a new facial photograph rule for children applying for or renewing residence cards. It kicks in from June 14, 2026. What it means: Every child aged 1 to 16 must now submit a passport style facial photo for their residence card or special permanent resident certificate.

Impact: Indian and Asian families already living in Japan or planning to move there must prepare child photos in advance. Photo specs are strict, so any rejection will delay the whole family's paperwork.

Canada -The next Express Entry draw is expected on May 27, 2026, just days away. The last draw on May 11 invited 380 PNP candidates at a cutoff of 798. What it means: IRCC is still focused on provincial nominees and in Canada talent. General CRS draws are running between 514 and 518 points.

Impact: Candidates sitting in the pool with low CRS should chase a provincial nomination or a category based stream like healthcare, trades or French speakers. Without that boost, the wait keeps getting longer.

United Kingdom - On May 21, 2026, the Home Office quietly updated its Nepal country policy notes and refreshed both the worker and student sponsor licence registers. What it means: New companies have been added and some old sponsors have been removed from the official list. Nepal related asylum and visa guidance has been refreshed. I

Impact: Students and workers planning to apply through a UK sponsor must check the live register before paying any agent. If the sponsor is not listed today, the visa will be refused.

Schengen Area - The European Commission released its 2026 State of Schengen Report on May 18, confirming that the Entry Exit System is now fully working at all Schengen borders since April 10. Over 66 million entries have already been logged and 32,000 people were refused entry. What it means: Biometric checks (fingerprints and face scan) are now mandatory for every non EU traveller crossing into Schengen. ETIAS is still on track for Q4 2026 launch with the fee fixed at 20 euros.

Impact: Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi travellers heading to Europe must arrive at airports earlier. First time visitors will be enrolled in the biometric system, so plan extra airport time on every Schengen trip.

Singapore - The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority has rolled out an update to streamline its visa application and document upload process.

What it means: The portal is now faster, document upload is simpler, and tracking is clearer for both tourist and work pass applicants.

Impact: Faster processing for Indian tourists and business travellers. Consultants should retrain staff on the new portal flow to avoid uploading rejections.

United States (Africa Travel Restriction) Effective May 18, 2026, the US has paused all visa services at its embassies in Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan due to the Ebola outbreak. Non US passport holders who visited these three countries in the last 21 days cannot enter the US.

What it means: Anyone with recent travel to these African nations is locked out of the US until the public health risk clears.

Impact: African students, business visitors, and family visa holders must reschedule or reroute their applications through nearby countries. Always check the latest CDC and DHS advisories before booking flights.

No major new policy changes or big announcements reported from other countries worldwide today.

Pro Tip for Immigration Consultants Always cross check government websites and not just media reports before advising any client. Policies are changing daily across multiple countries, and one wrong date or one missing sponsor name can cost your client months of waiting. Build a daily 15 minute habit of scanning official sources of the top 10 destination countries. That habit alone will set you apart from 90 percent of agents in the market.
