Breaking News - Today's Announcement

European Union  Historic Deportation Law Sealed

What it means: The EU reached a final deal on June 1 and it was formally reported on June 2 and 3 on a sweeping new Return Regulation, the toughest migration law in the bloc's history. The law allows EU countries to build deportation centers called return hubs in third countries outside the bloc, detain rejected migrants for up to two years, impose entry bans for up to ten years, and fast track removals. National authorities will also be allowed to search the homes of irregular migrants and other premises to enforce deportation orders. The deal now goes for formal approval by EU Parliament and member governments, which is expected to pass quickly.

Impact: At least five member states including Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Greece are already in talks with countries mostly in Africa to establish return hubs. This directly affects nationals from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East who are in or planning to enter the EU. Consultants with clients holding pending European cases need to reassess risk immediately.

Currently Active - High Impact Alerts This Week

USA : India EB2 Green Card Category Officially Exhausted for 2026

What it means: The US Department of State confirmed that the fiscal year 2026 annual limit for visa issuance in the India EB2 category has been reached and no more immigrant visas will be issued in this category until the next fiscal year begins on October 1, 2026. The EB2 India Final Action Date also retrogressed by more than 10 months in the June 2026 Visa Bulletin, and the EB1 India date moved back by three and a half months.

Impact: Indian professionals in the EB2 queue will not receive green card approvals until at least October 2026. The wait just got longer. Explore EB3 downgrade strategies where applicable as EB3 India moved forward slightly this month.

USA  World Cup Travel Alert  :  8 Days to Kickoff

What it means: Fans from 39 countries subject to the US travel ban cannot attend World Cup matches in the United States unless they had a visa before the ban was enacted or qualify for one of two narrow exceptions. Of the 48 qualifying nations, fans from Côte d'Ivoire, Haiti, Iran, and Senegal are all subject to the ban. A visa or ESTA does not guarantee entry, as admissibility is finally decided by officers at the point of arrival. The tournament runs June 11 to July 19, 2026.

Impact: Clients planning to travel for the World Cup need their documents reviewed now. There is no single visa for all three host countries. US, Canada, and Mexico each require separate entry documents.

Poland - Heightened Border Checks Active Until August

What it means: From June 1, 2026, Poland moved to stronger BRAVO and BRAVO CRP nationwide security alerts and added a CHARLIE alert on major rail lines. These measures will remain in place until August 31, 2026 and enable more intensive identity checks at borders and rail stations.

Impact: Anyone transiting through or entering Poland must carry complete documentation. Business travellers and employees on assignment should expect slower border processing this entire summer.

Germany - Phase 3 Skilled Worker Law Now Active

What it means: On June 1, Germany activated the third and most business relevant phase of its Skilled Worker Immigration Act. Key changes include a points based Chancenkarte job search visa and the doubling of the West Balkan labour quota to 50,000.

Impact: Germany is now one of the most accessible skilled worker destinations in the world. Clients from India, Africa, and Southeast Asia who have qualifications but no job offer yet can now apply for a job search visa and look for work from inside Germany.

New Zealand - English Test Now Mandatory for Skill Level 3 Work Visas

What it means: From June 1, 2026, applicants for the Accredited Employer Work Visa at skill level 3 must now meet English language requirements. A minimum IELTS score of 4.0 or an equivalent standard is required. Previously this only applied to skill level 4 and 5 roles.

Impact: A large number of trade, construction, and service sector applicants now need to sit an English test before applying. Any client with a pending or upcoming New Zealand work visa application in skill level 3 should check whether they are affected.

Oman : Visa on Arrival Now Available for Indian Business Visitors

What it means: The India Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement entered into force on June 1, 2026. It creates visa on arrival access for Indian business visitors, doubles quota ceilings for intra company transferees, and allows Indian professionals to work in Oman for up to four years.

Impact: Indian professionals targeting the Gulf now have a faster and easier route into Oman. Processing timelines for corporate transfers are expected to shorten significantly under this treaty.

Finland - Russian Non Biometric Passports Rejected

What it means: From June 1, 2026, Finland's immigration service will reject residence permit applications that rely on Russian non biometric passports, aligning with a government resolution that already bans such passports at the border.

Impact: Russian nationals must hold a valid biometric passport to apply for Finnish residency. Applications submitted with old non biometric documents will be refused without exception.

Portugal :  Immigration Agency Strike Ends Today

What it means: A five day nationwide strike by staff at Portugal's immigration agency AIMA ran from June 1 to June 5, 2026, causing significant delays and backlogs across all residence permit appointments and processing. The strike ends today but backlogs will persist well beyond this date.

Impact: Do not expect Portugal cases to catch up immediately. Plan for extended delays across the coming weeks.

No major new policy changes or big announcements reported from other countries worldwide today.
